This memorial website was created in the memory of our much loved baby son, Samuel James Savage who was born sleeping in Lagan Valley Hospital, Lisburn on February 16, 2005 . He was our first son and we will remember him forever.
We first found out we were expecting him in June 2004, and from the moment we saw two lines on the pregnancy test we were so excited about his arrival. Daddy was sure he was a boy right from the start, but Mummy took a bit more convincing. But when we saw him waving to us on the 3d scan at 24 weeks, there was no doubt! Tears and hugs all round - we couldn't wait to meet our little boy!
He was to be the first grandchild on both sides of the family, so you can imagine the excitement during the preparations for his arrival.
Everything went incredibly well throughout the pregnancy, he grew and grew, all antenatal checks went fine. He seemed to be so strong and healthy inside Mummy's tummy. He kicked, hiccupped, and somersaulted his way through pregnancy and Mummy loved every moment of it!
It wasn't until the 39th week of his little life inside Mummy that things started to go wrong. On Sunday 13th February 2005 he caught an overwhelming group b strep infection which would have killed him within hours. When Mummy realised she hadn't felt him moving all day, Mummy and Daddy rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. Samuels little heart had already stopped beating. The next day Mummy had to be induced, and gave birth to Samuel at 3.15am on Weds 16th February 2005. He weighed 7lb 9oz, and had Mummys mouth and nose, and Daddy's BIG shoulders and build.
Our hearts were broken, but we were so proud of our amazing little angel. In his short life he touched so many lives. He has brought our two families together for the first time - and they got on brilliantly. He also brought Mummy and Daddy closer, and we now share a bond that can never be broken - we made Samuel and he was perfect.
